Real World Testing

Real World Testing is an essential annual requirement set forth in the ONC 21st Century Cures Act Final Rule for health IT developers participating in the ONC Health IT Certification Program. This critical Condition and Maintenance of Certification mandate requires Certified Health IT Developers to validate the interoperability and functionality of their certified technologies in authentic healthcare environments, rather than in the controlled conditions of an ONC-Authorized Testing Lab. The aim of Real World Testing is to ensure that Certified Health IT performs as intended when deployed, focusing on real-world interoperability and data exchange. This process involves systematic observations and evaluations of health IT systems in everyday settings, providing a comprehensive assessment of their effectiveness. Results from Real World Testing are documented transparently through detailed testing plans and outcomes, fostering accountability and trust among stakeholders.
